Benjamin S. Williams correspondence, certificate, and poem, 1863-1919.

This collection consists of three letters, a certificate, and a poem. The first letter, from William S. Dilworth to Maj. Wilson, 1863, requests distress leave for Lieutenant Williams. The second letter, from Misses Watkins and Prentiss to Lieutenants Williams and Rawls, invited the lieutenants to tea. Williams and Rawls were at the Blind School Hospital at the time. The third letter is from A.M. Manigault to Capt. B.S. Williams, 1881. Manigault notifies Williams that his commission as Captain of Company A of the 3rd Regiment Cavalry, S.V.T., has been accepted by Governor Haygood. Also included in the collection are a certificate of B.S. Williams' Confederate military service in Company A, Altamaha Scouts Company I, and a satirical poem about love, signed by Thomas Williams.

Benjamin S. Williams was the son of Col. Gilbert W.M. Williams, commander of the 47th Georgia Volunteer Regiment. Benjamin enlisted in the Confederate States Army at Savannah and began his service in 1861 in the 1st Corp, 1st Company F of the 25th Georgia Regiment.
